John William Henry II was born on September 13, 1949 in Quincy, Illinois. His parents were soybean farmers, and he split his time growing up between Illinois and Arkansas. His asthmatic condition[4] at the age of 15 prompted his family to move to Apple Valley,California.[5] After his graduation from Victor Valley High School in Victorville, he attended Victor Valley College,[6] then the University of California (at Riverside, Irvine, and Los Angeles), where he majored in philosophy but did not graduate[7] — partly the result of performing on the road in two rock and rollbands, Elysian Fields and Hillary.[citation needed][8] "

" Perhaps Red Sox principal owner John Henry would like to give it a whirl. While Henry may not seem to be the most likely candidate to perform on stage, it wouldn't be a first for him. Fans who've read Seth Mnookin's Feeding the Monster, an exploration of the building of the 2004 Red Sox championship team, know that Henry, in college, played in a progressive rock band called Elysian Fields."

"The band’s main focus was a rock opera based on aliens from the Cassiopeia constellation. Band members also shaved their eyebrows to appear more in character"

" The first intercollegiate baseball game took place in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on July 1, 1859, between squads representing Amherst College and Williams College. Amherst won, 73–32. This game was one of the last played under an earlier version of the game known as "Massachusetts rules", which prevailed in New England until the "Knickerbocker Rules" (or "New York Rules") developed in the 1840s gradually became accepted.[1]  "

" Many of the players that Duquette drafted or signed were on the Red Sox 2004 World Series championship team. He is largely considered to have laid the groundwork for that team by signing and drafting players likeTim Wakefield, Johnny Damon, Jason Varitek,Manny Ramirez, Derek Lowe, and Kevin Youkilis.[6][11][12][13] In 2002, Duquette was dismissed from his general manager post less than 24 hours after the Red Sox had officially been sold to a new ownership group that included John W. Henry and Tom Werner.[9][11] "

"You have to understand that, prior to that, the facilities we had were awful," said Dalton native Jim Duquette, a former New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles front office executive who was a Williams baseball team captain in 1988. "Junior year, we had to play a lot of games at Mount Greylock [Regional High School] because the field they put us on had gotten flooded. "

" Loot buried by Hessian mercenary soldiers during the American Revolution is said to be buried in Dalton. The legend goes that on reaching Dalton, Massachusetts, the Hessians agreed among themselves to put their valuables into a howitzer, which they buried in the woods, intending that some of them should come back at the close of the war and recover it. As is so often the case in these stories, the Hessians never returned. The treasure is assumed to be hidden in the surrounding woodlands.
